Amsterdam's Artis Zoo dates from 1838 and is one of the city's top attractions. This impressive zoo houses over 6,000 animals, most of which live in outdoor enclosures that provide surroundings representing their natural habitats as near as possible.
The aquarium features one of the world's largest aquatic collections, and the nocturnal house provides a fascinating insight into the activities of these specialised animals during the hours of darkness.
